Portfolio committee does oversight on Standerton SAPS

The committee assessed the refurbishment of the Standerton Police Station and SAPS residential houses.

The Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure conducted an oversight visit to the Standerton Police Station.

Led by its chairperson, Carol Phiri, the committee assessed the refurbishment of the Standerton Police Station and SAPS residential houses to ensure upgrades meet service delivery standards.

The committee took a walkthrough of the completed facilities to receive updates on the completed work, challenges, and impact of the refurbishment.

According to Lubabalo Majenge, spokesperson for the Lekwa Local Municipality, this refurbishment aims to enhance working conditions and strengthen policing services. He said oversight was important to ensure that infrastructure projects deliver value for money and meet the community’s needs.

Executive Mayor Sifiso Mngemezulu welcomed the committee to the municipality, stating that this oversight would help to strengthen the transparency and accountability of the municipality.

“The refurbishment of the Standerton Police Station is a significant step towards improving safety in our communities,” stated Mngemezulu.
