Water levels continue declining in Gert Sibande District

The Grootdraai Dam decreased from 101.0% to 100.1%.

The latest weekly report from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) indicated slight decreases in water levels, although most dams remained stable at around 100%.

The provincial average declined from 100.1% to 100.0%, while the Gert Sibande District average dropped from 99.7% to 99.5%.

The only dams in the district that recorded increased water levels were the Vygeboom Dam, which increased from 99.1% to 101.5% and the Morgenstond Dam, from 100.0% to 100.2%.

The Grootdraai Dam decreased from 101.0% to 100.1%, and the Nooitgedacht Dam from 100.3% to 100.1%. The Jericho Dam dropped from 100.7% to 100.0%.

The Westoe Dam recorded the lowest results in the district, dropping from 85.7% to 85.3%, and the Heyshope Dam dropped from 100.4% to 100.2%.

DWS Spokesperson Wisane Mavasa said water conservation remains essential in our water-scarce country.

“The DWS encourages the public to use water wisely and sparingly, fix leaks, report burst pipes and prevent vandalism of water infrastructure,” concluded Mavasa.
