Water levels continue to drop in district’s dams
Grootdraai Dam showed a decrease in water levels, dropping from 100.1% to 100.0%.
The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) released its weekly state of reservoirs report on February 25, urging residents to use water sparingly as most listed dams continue to record declines in water levels.
Though most listed dams in the province continue to record declines, the average dam levels remain stable at 100%. The Gert Sibande District average also remained stable at 99.5%, with dams recording mixed results.
The only dam in the district that remained stable was the Jericho Dam at 100%. Morgenstond Dam followed the upward trend and increased from 100.2% to 100.7%.
Heyshope Dam also showed an increase from 100.2% to 101.0%. Grootdraai Dam showed a decrease in water levels, dropping from 100.1% to 100.0%.
Nooitgedacht Dam dropped significantly from 100.1% to 99.1%. Vygeboom Dam also showed a decrease in water levels, dropping from 101.5% to 99.8%.
Westoe Dam’s levels declined from 85.3% to 82.7%. Wisane Mavasa, spokesperson for the DWS, said they call on the public to use water wisely and sparingly and to prioritise water conservation.
They urge the public to protect water resources and infrastructure by fixing water leaks and reporting burst pipes to prevent unnecessary loss of water.
