Runners braved the annual Standerton Goldi 4-in-1 marathon

The Standerton Goldi 4-in-1 marathon kicked off from Hoërskool Standerton with a 42.2km, 21km, 10km and a fun run event.

Wet weather proved no match for the nearly 900 athletes who gathered at Standerton High School on March 21 for the annual Goldi 4-in-1 Marathon. Under a grey 06:00 sky, runners set off across four distances: the 42km marathon, 21km half-marathon, 10km, and a fun run.

In the flagship 42.2km marathon, Lucas Jani dominated the men’s field, crossing the line in a commanding 2:36:17. He was followed by Never Mahlangu in 2:40:12, while Macaleni Mahlangu claimed third just 41 seconds later in 2:40:53.

The women’s marathon saw Kirsten Nolan take top honours with a time of 3:25:07. Michelle Craley finished second in 3:27:44, and Jackoline Brough rounded out the podium in 3:43:28.

The 21.1km half-marathon also produced competitive results. Derick Masango led the men in 1:14:07, holding off Sifiso Twala (1:15:35) and Jabulani Tsotetsi (1:16:29). On the women’s side, Michelle Parkes took gold in 1:32:02, followed by Holly Thomas (1:34:23) and Tamlyn Stevens (1:44:02).

In the 10km run, Bongani Mbogane (36:26) and Chrizelle Roberts (38:04) claimed victory in their respective categories, putting in impressive performances despite the drizzle. Overall, the event was hailed a success, showcasing the grit, determination, and endurance of the running community.
