Police tie more cases to suspected drug dealer in Evander

Provincial commander of the Hawks warns parents about drugs concealed in sweets wrapping.

Suspected drug dealer Gilbert Moabi Moujekwu (23) abandoned his bail application during his court appearance at the Evander Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, March 2.

Moujekwu was arrested during an intelligence driven disruptive operation conducted on Friday, February 24 at Evander.

The disruptive operation was executed by the Secund-based Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team together with Crime Intelligence and K9 unit also based in Secunda.

The arrest follows information received regarding a certain house where drugs were allegedly being sold.

On arrival at the identified premises, the suspect was found in possession of drugs which included nyaope, cat, crystal meth, heroin and crack cocaine.

The drugs together with a drug substance grinder, drug packaging material and an undisclosed amount of cash were confiscated for further investigation.

After the accused was remanded in custody, he was profiled and linked to other existing cases.

The investigating officer’s commitment resulted in these cases being placed back on the court roll.

The accused is now facing five charges of dealing in drugs and contravention of the Immigration Act.

All cases were postponed to March 6 for further investigation.

The Provincial Head, Major General Nico Gerber appreciated the effort of the team.

“Parents must take note of a new trend of concealing drugs in sweet wrappings which appear as innocent sweets, this is intended to avoid detection.

“The community is urged to report drug dealers as Mpumalanga Hawks are serious about addressing this scourge,” said the General.
