Hitman opens fire on Standerton couple in their car
Both the businessman and his wife sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital.
A businessman and his wife were rushed to hospital after they were shot during an attempted hit on the R23 near the traffic lights in Standerton on August 2.
According to Standerton police spokesperson Sergeant Johannes Ndaba, the couple was travelling from a church service in Sakhile when they noticed another car following them.
Ndaba said when the couple stopped at the traffic lights, a man in the other vehicle opened fire, targeting the businessman on the driver’s side.
Despite being wounded, the businessman managed to drive to the Standerton Police Station, where police immediately summoned an ambulance.
Both the businessman and his wife sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospital. Ndaba said 14 bullet cartridges were found on the scene, which will form part of the investigation.
Police have opened a case of attempted murder. No arrests have been made, and the motive for the shooting remains unknown.
The suspects’ vehicle, a white Honda SUV with number plates MG30KZ GP, was caught on surveillance footage as it was speeding towards Balfour. The investigation is continuing.
