Gert Sibande District Municipality adopts 2026/27 IDP and budget
The adoption is a critical milestone in ensuring sustainable service delivery, sound financial management and the implementation of developmental priorities across the district.
The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) council has adopted the final Integrated Development Plan (IDP) and Budget for the 2026/2027 financial year during the council meeting that was held on May 29 at the GSDM offices in Ermelo.
The adoption was done in accordance with Section 25(4)(a) and (b) of the Local Government: Municipal Systems Act, 32 of 2000, as well as Section 75(1)(a), (b) and (2) of the Local Government: Municipal Finance Management Act, 56 of 2003.
The adoption of a funded IDP and budget is regarded as a critical milestone in ensuring sustainable service delivery, sound financial management and the implementation of developmental priorities across the district.
According to the municipality, the IDP and Budget outline key programmes and projects aimed at improving the lives of communities throughout Gert Sibande District.

The documents also incorporate commitments from sector departments in line with the District Development Model (DDM), ensuring coordinated planning and development.
Council noted that all prescribed legislative processes and consultation phases for the development of the IDP and Budget were duly followed to promote transparency, accountability and public participation.
Both documents were assessed by Provincial Treasury and the Department of Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs (CoGHSTA), with all concerns raised during the assessment process addressed before final adoption by council.
Residents are encouraged to look out for a public notice announcing the adoption of the IDP and the budget.

The notice will invite members of the public to access and review the documents on the website of Gert Sibande District Municipality as part of the municipality’s ongoing commitment to meaningful public participation in the district’s development agenda.
During the same council sitting, political leadership conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families of the 10 people who recently lost their lives in a tragic accident in Standerton.
The municipality expressed its sympathies to the bereaved families and wished that the souls of the departed rest in peace.
GSDM reaffirmed its commitment to responsive governance, financial sustainability and accelerated service delivery for the benefit of all communities within the district.
