Several households in Silkaatzkop woke up to dry taps on Sunday morning (July 26) after four water meter valves were allegedly stolen between Coen Brits and Lead Street.

Residents said they discovered water gushing from the damaged pipes where the valves had been removed.

“We woke up this morning and the water was gushing out down the street,” said a concerned resident.

The theft comes at a time when many households across the Secunda area are already experiencing low water pressure as water supply is gradually being restored.

Residents expressed frustration that just as water was beginning to return, infrastructure theft had once again disrupted supply to affected homes.

The incident has added to ongoing challenges facing residents as they continue to cope with intermittent water supply and low water pressure in parts of the area.
