eMbalenhle library vandalised days before schools re-open
Without the proper security measures in place, some community members fear the library will end up like the community hall.
Vandalism of property belonging to the Govan Mbeki Municipality continues in eMbalenhle.
This time, the eMbalenhle Library was targeted.
The library was burgled and electricity infrastructure was damaged on January 9, a mere two days before the schools reopened.
Electric and telephone cables, as well as the electricity distribution box cables, were removed.

The incident happened under the noses of the security company that provides security services day and night.
The library is adjacent to the eMbalenhle Police Station and the Sijongile Ndamase Community Hall, which has allegedly become a den for drug addicts.
The hall has been vandalised and plundered.
Some community members fear the library will end up like the community hall if the municipality does not take serious security measures.

They claim that the municipality has neglected the fence around the facility, and this allows criminals to break in.
The Concerned Artist Movement has previously raised their concerns about the state of the community hall, claiming that it is vandalised because no activities take place there.
Electricity cables at eMbalenhle Water Treatment Works were also reportedly stolen in the presence of a private security company’s personnel.
The municipality appeals to law enforcement agencies, the police, neighbourhood watches, and the community to curb the scourge of cable theft.
