Educator from eMbalenhle faces assault charge
Mother said her child is now scared to go to school.
A woman from eMbalenhle opened a case against a primary school teacher who allegedly assaulted her nine-year-old son last week.
Zolisa Gaga’s child was upset when he returned home from Osizweni Primary School on January 21.
“I was not in when he arrived home. My mother called to tell me my child was not well, so I rushed home to check on him.
“He was crying when I arrived, so I asked him what was wrong. He told me he was in pain because a teacher beat him with something.
“I pulled off his clothes to see if he was injured. I was in tears when I saw his body,” said Gaga.
She decided to report the matter to the police and a docket was opened. The boy did not want to tell his mother what had led to the beating.
“We know that our kids are sometimes naughty, but this is not the right way to discipline a child,” said Gaga.
She said her son is now scared to go to school because of what had happened to him.
The Mpumalanga Department of Basic Education Spokesperson, Jasper Zwane, said the department is aware of the incident.

Zwane said their district office was instructed to submit a written report.
“As soon as the department gets the report, we will decide what action to take,” said Zwane.
The eMbalenhle police spokesperson, Constable Busi Mthethwa, confirmed that a case of common assault has been opened and said the police are still investigating.
