Grootdraai Dam increased from 101.1% to 101.9%

Despite the water levels remaining stable with slight changes in most dams, the department reminded the public that South Africa is a water-scarce country and water has no substitute.

The latest Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) weekly state of reservoirs report dated March 6 shows that the average dam levels in Mpumalanga are stable and remain unchanged from last week’s 100.1%.

According to their statement, the report also shows that the water management areas (WMA) recorded slight drops in water volumes, with the Olifants WMA recording a drop from 90.7% to 90.4% and the Inkomati-Usuthu WMA dropping from 101.3% to 101.1%.

In terms of the districts, Ehlanzeni dropped from 102.1% to 101.4%, while the other two districts recorded some improvements, with Gert Sibande increasing from 100.9% to 101.2% and Nkangala from 96.9% to 97.0%.

In the Gert Sibande District, Morgenstond and Heyshope dams recorded declines while the rest of the dams recorded improvements in water levels.

Morgenstond dropped from 100.4% to 100.0% and Heyshope dropped from 101.0% to 100.9%.

On the positive side, Grootdraai increased from 101.1% to 101.9%, Nooitgedacht from 100.0% to 101.1%, Vygeboom from 101.6% to 102.2%, Jericho from 100.8% to 101.8% and Westoe from 99.5% to 99.6%.

Despite the water levels remaining stable with slight changes in most dams, the department reminded the public that South Africa is a water-scarce country and water has no substitute.

It is crucial to use the available water wisely and sparingly.
