SECUNDA – Local branches of the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) celebrated Human Rights Day from March 17 to 21.
The aim was to collect 14 000 units of blood nationally.
The donor relations practitioner of Teksa Blood Service said Human Rights Day is a national observation and proclamation of the rights South Africans enjoy and health is also a basic human right.
Prinsloo urged residents to bring their families and friends and donate blood at the blood service in Secunda on Horwood Street or in Bethal in the SPAR Shopping Centre.

Thandi Mosupye, SANBS’s senior manager of marketing, communications and brand, said thousands of South Africans receive life-saving blood transfusions yearly and it is made possible by the selfless acts of donors.
“We observe Human Rights Day to emphasise our commitment to equal access to healthcare services, which is one of our Constitutional rights,” said Mosupye.
To be able to donate blood you must be between 16 and 75 years old and weigh more than 50kg.
