Well-known couple from Standerton relocates to Durban
With the help of his father and brothers, he began the business GD Wholesalers, serving as director for many years till his retirement at the age of 60.
Khandoo Daya (83), the eldest of seven brothers and one sister, has retired and he and his wife decided to move to Durban.
He was born in India into the Govankaka and Danikaki Daya.
Khandoo enrolled at the former Standerton Indian School, later known as the Standerton Indian and Coloured School and much later as Stanwest Combined School, completing Standard Eight (Grade 10).
Daya, being the eldest, joined his father in the family business, D Naran & Co, in 1974, selling fruit and vegetables till 1979.

With the help of his father and brothers, he began the business GD Wholesalers, serving as director for many years till his retirement at the age of 60.
After his retirement, he assisted his son, Kishen, in his business, 3 K Stationery.
Khandoo played an active role in the community, which included membership of the education committee of the Standerton Indian and Coloured School and involvement with the Prajapati Society of Transvaal.
Not only the society was promoted, but also the Hindu society at large.

He served as chairman of the society and was also involved with the Ramakhrishna-group, which held prayer meetings every Sunday at his father’s home.
He was part of the Shree Standerton Hindu Society as a member and trustee, contributing financially as well.
Khandoo married Shushilabhabbi in 1964 and two sons and a daughter, Kishen, Vandana and Kiran were born.
His wife was also an active supporter of the society and part of the Mahila Mandel for many years.
The decision to relocate to KZN was to be closer to Kishen.
The Shree Standerton Hindu Society wished them well for the future and pray that Paramatma guides keep them safe in their twilight years.
