Leandra CPF promotes neighbourhood watch

“As police, we are faced with a high number of housebreaks and we need our community to be part of the fight against this crime.”

The Leandra Community Police Forum and the police went door-to-door to educate residents about crime and promote a neighbourhood watch in Lebohang on September 9.

According to Constable Nontobeko Ngubeni, the Leandra SAPS spokesperson, housebreakings and theft in Lebohang had increased, and they saw a need to educate the community about a neighbourhood watch.

Ngubeni said some of the culprits were known to the community, but the challenge was that witnesses were afraid to report the crimes.

“We need our community to be part of the fight against this crime. We encourage them to report criminals, and they can remain anonymous.

“We want residents to be part of the sector crime forum,” said Ngubeni.

Ngubeni said other crimes, such as gender-based and domestic violence, had also increased.

The police want the community and organisations to play a role in fighting these crimes.

“We intend to create a safer community.”
