While paramedics were attending to the more critically injured man, another injured man reportedly disappeared from the scene under unclear circumstances.
Police in eMbalenhle have launched a murder investigation following an alleged mob justice incident that occurred on February 18 in Extension 5.
According to information received, two men were allegedly apprehended by the community after being accused of stealing items from vehicles in the area.
It is alleged that the two were severely assaulted. An ambulance was summoned to the scene.
While paramedics were attending to the more critically injured man, the other reportedly disappeared from the scene under unclear circumstances.

The critically injured man was transported to Evander Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Sergeant Busi Mthethwa, police spokesperson in eMbalenhle, confirmed that police initially opened a case of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm (GBH).
However, following the victim’s death in hospital, the case was upgraded to murder. Mthethwa said no arrests have been made at this stage and investigations are ongoing.
Police have urged community members with information that could assist the investigation to come forward and report to the nearest police station.
