Woman’s body found with injuries to her neck on farmland near Bethal

Police are still trying to identify the woman

Bethal Police are investigating the death of an unknown woman whose body was found in a field near Blesbokspruit farm between Bethal and Trichardt on February 22.

According to police, the owner of the farm, who was doing a routine walkabout, noticed the woman’s naked body on the farm.
Police were alerted, and upon arrival at the scene, body was pointed out.

Police noticed visible injuries on the deceased’s neck. They found clothes suspected to be those of the deceased nearby. The clothes include a pink dress, a grey jersey, red and black socks, black-and-white sandals, and a blue surgical mask.

Alongside the body was a Shoprite parcel and a counter card, which police took for preliminary investigations. They also found a pack of bananas purchased from a SPAR.

Following the preliminary investigations, footage was retrieved, and the deceased was last seen walking out of the shop in a pink dress, a grey long-sleeve t-shirt, black and white sandals, wearing a blue surgical mask, carrying items purchased in a plastic bag.

Roleplayers, including Bethal Emergency Medical Services (EMS), Secunda Local Criminal Record Centre, Bethal Detectives, and Bethal Forensic Pathology, were summoned to the scene.

The woman was certified dead by EMS paramedic Nomsa Khumalo. Warrant Officer Sekogile Kgaritsi, attached to Secunda LCRC, captured the scene by taking photos to compile a photo album which will form part of the investigation.

Bakkie Jele, the forensic pathologist, removed the body from the scene and transported it to Bethal Government Mortuary.

Authorities are working together to determine the cause of death and will involve the Department of Home Affairs to ascertain the identity of the deceased.

Police are appealing to the public to assist by providing information that could help locate the family of the deceased and/or anyone with a loved one missing to contact Detective Sergeant December Jele on 060 802 2876 or 082 579 0177.
