Lenacapavir available at designated clinics in Govan Mbeki and Lekwa municipalities
Medication is being distributed free of charge at 31 designated government clinics across the province's three districts.
Following the official national launch of the Lenacapavir HIV prevention programme by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi on June 6 at Lillian Ngoyi Stadium in Secunda, the Mpumalanga Department of Health has announced the designated clinics where community members can access the medication.
According to Mpumalanga MEC for Health Sasekani Manzini, Lenacapavir is being distributed free of charge at 31 designated government clinics across the province’s three districts – Gert Sibande District Municipality, Nkangala District Municipality and Ehlanzeni District Municipality.
In the Govan Mbeki Local Municipality area, community members can access Lenacapavir at the following clinics:
- Bethal Town Clinic
- eMbalenhle Clinic
- eMzinoni Clinic
- eMbalenhle Extension 14 Clinic
- Lebohang Clinic
- Paulina Morapeli Clinic
- Secunda Clinic
- Lillian Mabakazi Healthcare Centre in Sakhile, Standerton.
The Department of Health has encouraged eligible community members to visit these facilities for information, screening and access to the new HIV prevention injection, which is expected to play a significant role in reducing new HIV infections in South Africa.
