The Tutela Family Care organisation hosted a holiday awareness programme at the Thee Church of the Living God Embassy in Holfontein in July.

Approximately 180 children from the community attended the three-day holiday programme, where they took part in meaningful holiday activities.

The management team at Tutela believes that school holidays should be a time of rest and enjoyment, but that it is also an opportunity to equip children with knowledge and life skills to promote their safety, health and overall well-being.

When the management team of Tutela recognised a need for this, they arranged this holiday programme in collaboration with the disaster management team, the GMM Fire Department, Secunda Clinic, the Secunda and Trichardt Police and Curro Secunda.

Ronél McIntyre, office manager of Tutela, said each stakeholder played a vital role by sharing their professional knowledge and expertise.

The children learnt about fire safety, how to be prepared for an emergency, personal health and hygiene, oral health, personal safety, bullying prevention, substance abuse awareness and crime prevention.

McIntyre thanked everybody involved in making this holiday programme a success, especially Curro Secunda learners who engaged with the children.

“Child protection is a collective responsibility,” said McIntyre.

“By investing in preventative programmes such as these, communities create safer environments where children are equipped with the knowledge, confidence, and support they need to thrive.”
