eMbalenhle associations support netball

Plans to revive netball are going well.

eMBALENHLE – The eMbalenhle Netball Association and Vukanini Taxi Association are working hard to make netball one of the popular sporting codes in the area.

They awarded primary and secondary schools that took part in the Schools’ Netball Tournament in October at a ceremony that was held at the Sijongile Ndamase Community Hall on Friday, 29 November.

Allan Makunga Primary School came first, Mbalenhle Primary School was second and Thorisong Primary School was third in the primary schools divisions.

Thomas Nhlabathi Secondary School came first, Kiriyatswane Secondary School second and Sizwakele Secondary School third in the secondary schools division.

The schools received trophies, medals, balls and kits.

Stars of Tomorrow, Untouchable and Paradise netball teams were also awarded.

These teams play in the local netball leagues.

Mr Vusi Makhwanazi, chairman of the netball association, said plans to revive netball in the township are going well.

He said they have begun at schools and are aiming at getting girls involved in netball who will hopefully move on to club level and take part in regional, provincial and national tournaments.

The taxi association ended its three-year sponsorship with the Local Football Association recently.

Mr Mzondi Xaba, deputy chairman of the taxi association, said their focus in the coming years is to support girls to take part in sport.
