BETHAL – Bethal Bears Cricket Club played against Witbank Cricket Club recently and lost the match by four wickets.
Witbank won the toss and sent Bethal in to bat first.
Bethal’s first batsmen struggled, but managed to score 182 runs with Jean Greyling making a contribution of 70 runs.
After lunch it was Witbank’s turn to bat and they got off to a great start.
“Things looked gloomy for Bethal after 17 overs with Witbank being on 97 for only one wicket,” said Neil Parsons from Bethal Bears.
“However after drinks Bethal showed the fighting spirit for which they are known and put the Witbank batsmen under a lot of pressure.”
Parsons and George Plowman took wickets regularly.
Witbank held out and scored the winning runs with six wickets down beating Bethal by four wickets.
Parsons ended with bowling figures of 4/30 in 10 overs and Plowman with 2/47 in 10 overs.
“We are very disappointed with the loss, but I am extremely proud of the team for showing their fighting spirit,” said Plowman, captain of Bethal Bears Cricket Club.
