Get fit for Gert Sibande marathon
Athletes are gearing themselves for the second annual marathon.

HIGHVELD – Gert Sibande District Municipality will host its second annual marathon where athletes worldwide will take part in a 42.2km run on 5 April.
It will begin at 6am in Morgenzon and ends in Ermelo at the municipal building at 11am.
The event attracted more than 100 people between the ages of 14 and 60 and hundreds of spectators last year.
The marathon route is fast and flat, catering for elite athletes chasing fast times, as well as beginners looking to finish their first marathon.
Those who will find it hard to cope with the rigorous 42.2km marathon, can then try their hand at the 21.1km run.
With a two hour cut-off time, walkers are also welcome as they have ample time to finish the event and earn a medal.
The 10km sub-marathon is aimed at athletes between the ages of 14 and 19.
This is not limited to young people only, even those enthusiasts who want to finish a 10km run are welcome to join in.
William Chinyanga from Zimbabwe won the 42.2km marathon race in 2:24,02 last year.
He was followed closely by Timothy Chelimo from Kenya with 2:25,11 and Seun Moleshioe from Middelburg with 2:27,04.
The prize-giving ceremony will take place at the municipal offices after the race.
Registration will take place from 10am to 4pm on 4 April and from 3.30am to 4.50am on 5 April.
Entry fee for the 42.2km is R50, 21.1km is R25 and 10km is R15 and the temporal license is R15.
The marathon will be led by Mr Mishack Nhlabathi, executive mayor.
