Sport unites Govan Mbeki youngsters
Stakeholders take hands to encourage the youth to be involved in sport.
eMBALENHLE – Khulisa Social Solutions inspired young people to take part in the Sport Against Crime Awareness Campaign at the Sasol Club on Friday, 8 August.
It was a joint initiative between the organisation, Govan Mbeki Municipality’s Department of Community Services and other community stakeholders.
Pupils from Thokomala Reform School and local boys and girls took part in the soccer and netball tournaments.
The campaign gave the boys the opportunity to sharpen their skills when Rudolph Seale, former Kaizer Chiefs and Bafana Bafana defender, gave a coaching clinic before the soccer match.
They divided themselves into the colours of their soccer kits, blue and green teams.
The blue team won the soccer tournament 2-0 against the green team.
The girls played netball inside the hall and the blue team beat the green team 36-19.
The young people were also introduced to various ways of using their leisure time constructively.
Khulisa is a non-profit organisation that addresses social vulnerabilities as a systemic problem.
Most of the young people that have enrolled for the organisation’s diversion programmes have been convicted of crime.
