Lekwa officials hand over Sakhile Stadium

Municipality officially handed over Sakhile Stadium to the community.

The Lekwa Municipality officially handed over the Sakhile Stadium on 5 August.

According to Mr Linda Tshabalala, municipal manager, the stadium is now ready for use.

“The stadium was refurbished and an irrigation and drainage system has been placed, as well as reserve benches and a demarcation fence,” Mr Tshabalala said.

He also said they will meet with the Lekwa Sports Council on 8 August to discuss details regarding the stadium.

“We are still planning the official opening celebration and getting one of the major team playing in the Premier Soccer League to compete in the opening match.”

Mr Sipho Mkwanazi, spokesman of the municipality, said residents must book the stadium at the municipal offices if they want to use it. “We urge the community to take care of the sports facilities,” Ms Busi Sekhonde, MMC of Cooperate and Community Safety and Services, said.

She also said young people must use these sports facilities to avoid getting involved in substance abuse.
