KINROSS – SAFA development agency CEO, Dr Robin Peterson, aims to improve the number of coaching instructors in all regions.
SAFA awarded Gert Sibande coaches with certificates during a ceremony held at the Kinross Sasol Club on Friday, 20 March.
Sasol is the main sponsor of the Gert Sibande District municipal sports development.
Over the past year, LFA and SAFA development agency managed to train 143 coaches from Gert Sibande District Municipality with the help of Sasol.
“As Sasol we have other social contributions over and above the training of coaches.
“We recently bought a full kit for a team in Bush Buckridge,” said Sasol’s vice president of Public and Regulatory Affairs, Ms Maureen Mboshane.
SAFA’s development key plan for vision 2020 is to train coaches.
The plan is to train one coach for every 20 players and a hundred thousand coaches are needed for two million players.
SAFA is not only concentrating on training coaches only, they also aim at training referees and administrative officials.
By doing so, they will be able to improve the quality of football in South Africa.
“Sasol, SAFA, SAFA evelopment agency and SAFA Gert Sibande have invested in you and your role is to make us proud and make the star of Gert Sibande shine bright,” said Dr Peterson.
Bafana Bafana head coach, Mr Shakes Mashaba, said young people should not only focus on football and neglect school.
“Arrange gettogethers and discuss football,” he said.
Mr Mashaba encouraged young people to take advantage of the technology available to access more information related to sports.
LFA secretary, Mr Jafta Manuku, said they are excited that more coaches are being trained for Gert Sibande District and that will also improve the quality of football in the region.
“We need quality coaches to produce quality players,” said Mr Manuku.
LFA also acknowledges that Sasol plays an important role in the development of soccer in the district.
The following players have been produced by Gert Sibande District and are now playing for national teams: Kabelo Seribe plays for the U/20 national team, Nelson Maluleka plays for and is the captain of the U/17 national team, Dumisani Msibi is the goal keeper of the national team, Bafana Dlamini plays for the U/23 national team and May Mahlangu plays for the Turkish team Konyaspor.
All these players were developed by LFA coaches.
