Bethal learners explore police careers during Take a Girl Child to Work Campaign
The aim was to empower and support all women and girls to ensure female emancipation is realised.
Bethal SAPS Men for Change and Women’s Network recently held the Take a Girl Child to Work Campaign.
This campaign has enjoyed unrivalled success as a platform to address the need to inspire young girls to visualise reaching heights of success they never would have dreamed possible to achieve.
It was launched in 2013.
Const Thomas Mogadime, Men for Change champion and communications officer, said this was part of the back-to-basics approach.
“Going beyond the duty of policing and bringing a unique dynamic to community policing, the police participated in the campaign with the theme: Dream, Believe and Achieve, by interacting with girls from various schools.
“The aim was to empower and support all women and girls to ensure female emancipation is realised.
“The campaign also promotes awareness of gender issues, the rights of girls, as well as the benefits of encouraging girls to acquire the right working skills that will contribute to the economy and greater civil society.
“It also marketed the SAPS as an employer of choice and exposed learners to various career streams within the organisation.”
Motivational speakers, models and youth ambassadors from Thomas-Heights motivated and encouraged learners to follow their dreams.
The various career opportunities in the SAPS were presented by W/O Erika Meyer and Const Mogadime.
Learners were also given tips on how to believe in themselves.
Tips included
– Fake it until you make it. Trick yourself into it. Behave as if you are one step away from achieving that dream or that you have already made it.
– Behave and act like you believe and your feelings will join you later. Treat every step towards your dreams as a success regardless of the outcome as there is no such thing as failure, only learning and with every step, believe in yourself more.
Mr Thomas-Heights 2016, Gift Maseko, and Miss Thomas-Heights 2016 encouraged learners to believe in their dreams and to work hard in order to achieve them.
Ms Thobile Masilela encouraged learners to focus on their studies and pursue their dreams, because God gave everyone a purpose in life and that in everything they do, they must trust and believe in God in order to achieve their dreams.
After the presentations and motivational talks, the learners received dignity packs sponsored by Sam Holdings Group and Vintage Lounge.
The station commander, Lt Col Petrus Nzima, thanked everyone for their participation, as well as Const Mogadime for organising the event.
He further thanked the sponsors, Bethal Taxi Association and Sam Holdings Group, for coming on board.
