Local athletes excel at Comrades Marathon

Helena Joubert of the Sasol Marathon Club stood out in the Comrades Marathon this year when she finished ninth among the South African women, 11th in her age category (40-49) and she was the 24th woman to cross the finish line.

She obtained her Isavel Roche-Kelly medal with a finishing time of 06:57:54.

Local runners in the Govan Mbeki municipal area who clinched silver medals (06:00:00 and 7:29:59 for men or 7:00:00 and 7:29:59 for women), are Shellboy Mavuso (06:56:13) and Jorge Marques (07:17:48) from Sasol Marathon Club; Mlungisi Ennocent Nkosi (07:07:34) from Lake Umuzi Marathon Club, Thembile Gusawa (07:20:41) of Evander Athletics Club, and Never Mahlangu (06:55:00) from Bethal Marathon Club.
