Three die and several injured in two separate accidents
A man was found inside the vehicle while the woman was found approximately 10 metres away from the car. She was apparently lying just off the road. Medics assessed the patients and found that both had unfortunately already succumbed to their numerous injuries.
The weekend of September 10 – 12, left residents in the Streeknuus-area shocked after three people were killed and several others injured in two serious accidents.
A man and woman were killed on Friday night, September 10, when their vehicle rolled off the R555 in Persida.
According to Mr Russel Meiring, communications officer for ER24, paramedics arrived on the scene on the R555 at 22:45 and found a light motor vehicle upright in the road.
Ms Stompie Redders, a member of the Sundra Bulldogs Neighbourhood Watch told Streeknuus that she was called to the scene.
Upon her arrival, members of AAA Security as well as two tow trucks were on the scene.
A severely injured man was found inside the vehicle while the woman was about 10 metres away from the car.
She was lying just off the road.
The two patients were assessed, but it immediately became apparent that they both succumbed to their serious and numerous injuries.
“Nothing could be done for them, and they were declared dead on the scene,” Mr Meiring said in a media statement on Saturday, September 11.
“The vehicle was very badly damaged and it appeared that the driver might have lost control over the vehicle in the sharp bend on the R555,” Ms Redders said.
She added that a third passenger in the vehicle miraculously sustained no injuries.
In a second serious accident, a woman was killed and several others injured when a taxi and a truck collided on the R50 near Bapsfontein on Saturday, September 11.
ER24, together with other emergency services, arrived at around 21:00 and found the taxi and truck on the side of the road.
A woman was found motionless inside the taxi while several others were scattered along the side of the road.
Medics from ER24, Gau-Med Emergency Services and Alpha Security and Alarms Medical Response team attended to the scene.
According to ER24, they found that the woman inside the taxi had succumbed to numerous injuries that she sustained during the accident.
“Emergency services were unable to do anything for the woman and she was declared dead on the scene.”
Two of the patients were in critical condition, while 15 others had sustained minor to moderate injuries.
The patients were treated, and the critically injured were provided with advanced life support interventions.
The two critically injured people were treated and stabilised before being airlifted by Halo Aviation and Rocket Hems emergency helicopter.
The remaining patients were transported by ambulance to nearby hospitals. Local authorities were present on the scene to investigate the cause of this very serious collision.
