Rand Water urges all customers to use water sparingly ahead of 53-hour planned maintenance

According to an Eskom media statement, the project will entail the implementation of various cross-connections before the S4-pipeline is commissioned.

Rand Water has scheduled the planned maintenance on its S4 pipeline to tie in a new portion of the pipeline to the existing S4 pipeline.

The 53-hour project will commence from 17:00 on Thursday, August 11 until 22:00 on Saturday, August 13.

According to an Eskom media statement, the project will entail the implementation of various cross-connections before the S4 pipeline is commissioned.

This is part of the previously communicated strategy to refurbish and upgrade the infrastructure for sustainability purposes, said Justice Mohale in a media statement released on August 8.

The S4 pipeline runs from the Mapleton pumping station to Van Dyk Park in Boksburg.

The new portion that will be tied-in runs from Van Dyk Park to Rynfield in Benoni.

Eskom, therefore, warns that various customers, including the Victor Khanye Municipality (Delmas), the Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality (Bronkhorstspruit area) and Govan Mbeki Municipality, will experience water supply shortages during this period.

According to Rand Water, they have formally notified all the affected municipalities and direct customers, 21 days in advance of the planned maintenance to allow them to implement their appropriate contingency measures ahead of the planned work.

At the date of going to print, residents of Victor Khanye, however, have not yet received any formal notification from the local municipality and the extent of the impact of water supply shortages.
