Christmas money saving tips

Remember to be logical and don't be tempted into overspending.

Most people will get their bonuses from work and Christmas is one of the most tempting times when people spend more than they planned for.

At times, we fail to plan what we are going to do and how much we will spend while celebrating Christmas.

The following tips will help you not to overspend for Christmas:

1. Sit down with your family and discuss how you plan to spend the day.

2. Write down all the things you reached agreement on and check how much will be needed.

3. Check if the listed items are not going to eat into your annual savings or bonus.

4. On the listed items, check how many can be self made at home, such as Christmas cards.

5. If you have points cards like Pick n Pay, Clicks and Dischem, check if you can buy some items with your points.

6. Christmas is not a retail festival, therefore set a day when you will go Christmas shopping. Avoid going to the malls, because you will be tempted to buy things that are not on your list.

7. Do some screen shopping online, most shops have websites.

8. Use free gift wrapping offered in shops when buying gifts.
