Various genres were on offer, with live musical performances, poetry and dramas.
Ermelo’s own MonaLisa who took part in the South African Idols competition earlier in the year, brought a different spin to her musical performance and acted out the lyrics to the enjoyment of the crowd.
Towns of Msukaligwa were also catered for and artists from Davel and Chrissiesmeer, to name a few, also provided entertainment for the hip hop crowd.
A silent drama, acted out with music, was the highlight of the day and brought mixed reactions from the crowd who were riveted by the actions displayed on stage.
Ms Lerato Malinga, Beginning of Change’s founder, said the purpose of the show was to create a platform for artists and undiscover talents and groups to market their crafts.
“We hope to improve the lives of our youth by introducing them to art and dance, showing them the work that goes into developing the talent and sustaining themselves in the arts and culture industry,” said Ms Malinga.
She added that they will be targeting unemployed youths, previously disadvantaged people, as well as learners who love the theatre and music.
Ms Malinga and her team have a vision to hold such shows monthly and even branching out to other towns in Msukaligwa.
“We could have our own theatre here in Gert Sibande District instead of exporting all our talent to the big cities.”
The organising team thanked all stakeholders involved, including the Department of Culture, Sport and Recreation, for their continued support, and hopes more artists will participate in the next show.
