[COMPLETE ARTICLE] Chilla Flamez burns brighter
The urban Afropop, singer, songwriter and music composer began writing his own lyrics at the age of 12.
Sakhile born artist, Sibusiso Hlatshwayo aka Chilla Flamez, was awarded the overall best performer in Lekwa where nominations varied from different types of music genres.
“I believe my artistic versatility played a big role in the award,” he said.
The urban Afropop, singer, songwriter and music composer began writing his own lyrics at the age of 12.
“I began mostly by writing kwaito music,” Chilla also said.
“My writing was succeeded by performing my own songs during school events.”
Chilla is a versatile artist who does gospel, house, hip-hop and choral music.
“To date I have won a total of seven trophies for opera, Afropop, kwaito and gospel.”
His popularity grew in 2013 when he released Wanna be next to you which gained him many fans as well as respect from other artists.
Chilla began featuring in other artists’ music projects and joined the South African Police Service during an awareness campaign against human trafficking and women abuse.
He released Ingane yami and Qaphela which resulted in a more mature music support.
Chilla did not want to conform to a specific type of musician, but rather wanted to be an artist.
“The cliché applies, but I thank my fans for their constant support,” Chilla said.
“Artists sometimes undermine the very people who support their music.”
He attended the South African National Community Theatre Association (Sancta) in 2012 that included courses such as acting, voice and projection, script development, physical movement improvisation and use of the stage.
He also won an award at a provincial competition for most popular song with his latest track called Mugabe.
The petite muso is working on a 25-track album.
“When you do what God created you for, you never lose passion, no matter what the challenges,” he concluded.
