Police find two slaughtered cows in shack in eMbalenhle
A case of possession of suspected stolen meat was registered at the eMbalenhle Police Station and then referred to the police’s Stock Theft Unit in Bethal for further investigation.
Police arrested a 34-year-old after the meat from two cows was discovered in a shack at Ext 18, eMbalenhle, on Saturday, August 14.
According to police, an informant alerted them of suspicious people washing a lot of meat at one of the shacks at Ext 18.
When the police follow it on, they spotted a woman rinsing off meat at a shack.
Two men were sitting next to her, but one jumped up and fled when the police approached.
The cops apprehended the remaining man, who then took them to a shack that was full of meat.
The police found out that a bakkie was used to deliver the meat at the shack during the night of Friday, August 13.
The suspect then led the police to a place next to eMbalenhle cemetery, where the two cows had been slaughtered.
“A case of possession of suspected stolen meat was registered at the eMbalenhle Police Station and then referred to the police’s Stock Theft Unit in Bethal for further investigation,” said Const Busi Mthethwa, spokesperson for the eMbalenhle Police.
This is not the first time people were arrested for having suspected stolen meat.
The police arrested five suspects in possession of stolen sheep at Ext 18, eMbalenhle, on Monday, June 21.
In that case, the police were also informed about suspicious men who were selling sheep.
Police followed up the lead according to the description of the car and the location and found five men.
The cops asked them to open their car boot, and then saw a sheep and two sheepskins inside.
The men could not explain how they came by the sheep and were arrested for possession of suspected stolen property under the stock theft act.
