NICRO marks Youth Day with awareness campaign and netball tournament in eMbalenhle
The event brought together young girls aged 12-17, community members, and various stakeholders to empower young people through education, awareness, and sport.
In commemoration of Youth Day, the National Institute for Crime Prevention and Reintegration of Offenders (NICRO) hosted a Youth Day Awareness Campaign and Netball Tournament on June 16 at Extension 16 Mandela in eMbalenhle.
The event brought together young girls aged 12-17, community members, and various stakeholders to empower young people through education, awareness, and sport.
Stakeholders, including the South African Police Service (SAPS) eMbalenhle, the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, Siphephile Haven, and International Miss South Africa finalist Aphelele Mangola, delivered informative presentations on issues affecting young people.
Topics covered included crime prevention, bullying, self-awareness, anger management, positive decision-making, gender-based violence, sexual offences, and the consequences of criminal behaviour.

The awareness campaign was followed by an exciting netball tournament that promoted teamwork, discipline, leadership, and healthy lifestyles among participants.
The tournament concluded with the Peace Sisters netball team emerging as overall champions after defeating the Divas netball team 28–15 in the final.
The winning team received gold medals and the tournament trophy, while the runners-up were awarded silver medals in recognition of their commendable performance and sportsmanship throughout the competition.
In recognition of her outstanding performance, dedication, and contribution during the tournament, Buhle Adams was named Player of the Tournament.
Her exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship distinguished her among the participants and earned her the prestigious accolade.
Speaking on behalf of the organisers, NICRO Secunda Office Supervisor Nontobeko Phiri expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, community members, sponsors, and participants who contributed to the event’s success.
