Northside canoeists tackle rapids on Klip River
More than 100 paddlers tackled the daring rapids on the Klip River in what was another exciting Belloord race hosted by Florida Lake Canoe Club (FLCC).
Despite somewhat unpleasant weather conditions leading up to the event on Sunday 7 July , the day turned out to be quite pleasant. Paddlers were even able to cover the distance of 30 kilometres and conquer 20 challenging obstacles that consisted of rapids, broken bridges and rocky sections. FLCC spokesperson, Jennie Dallas highlighted the importance of taking part in such a race as it helps prepare paddlers for major events.
“Being one of the most active river paddling clubs in Gauteng, we host numerous river races on the nearest river with good water and numerous rapids to help paddlers before big events.
“At FLCC the safety standards of races are exceptionally high and we have an excellent reputation for looking after paddlers and teaching them the necessary skills which help them to avoid getting into any trouble.
“Thanks to numerous FLCC marshals who were positioned throughout the race at each obstacle, the more than 100 paddlers enjoyed their river race in safety.”
These races are made possible by Belloord a West Rand-based labour consultancy that sponsors the series of races with give-aways to all entries and lucky-draw prizes to all finishers. There is also a prizegiving after each race and a major prizegiving for those who qualify in the series at the end of the year including boats, paddles and other river canoeing equipment.
