Mugabe nephew’s apparent social media suicide note
Goronga's believed suicide note was published on micro blogging site tumblr on 5 November.
Students passed around a link to what is believed to be the suicide note of Mugabe’s nephew, Takudzwa Wesley Goronga, at the weekend.
Goronga, 23, was found dead in the closet of his campus residence at Monash South Africa.
Goronga’s believed suicide note was published on micro blogging site tumblr on 5 November.
In the note Goronga expressed his disinterest in society and his unhappiness with himself. The post is titled, “Goodbye, I quit, I’m killing myself”.
“Honestly I have nothing to say other than I am scared as f*ck in not knowing what to expect,” he wrote, referring to Christianity.
“I think the whole God, heaven and hell thing is just make-believe bullsh*t.”
“My life simply felt meaningless and at a standstill,” the final-year IT student wrote.
“Everything felt like nothing,” he stated, “I feel humanity is now unbecoming and inhumane and I simply cannot better it but add to the madness and inhumanity”.
“Nothing has ever felt this right, never has my mind been this adamant [sic].”
In the note Goronga thanked those that befriended him and said that he hoped to unburden and relieve the people in his life.
An earlier post on the blog on 5 November simply stated, “only the young die young”. It appears Goronga had been using the platform since 22 June 2012. His first post was a photo of cartons of Pacific cigarettes and a comment, “don’t judge”. The blog is ridden with posts referring to cigarettes, drugs, alcohol and religious questions.
Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabe spoke at a memorial service held in his honour in his hometown of Marondera, Zimbabwe on Saturday 15 November. He referred to the death as a “mystery”.
Mugabe compared the death of his nephew to the death of his own brother Albert, who drowned in a swimming pool at his home, recalling that his brother’s death also left him with many unanswered questions Zimbabwe latest news reported on Sunday 16 November. The president spoke of the importance of family unity and spiritual nourishment. According to the website Mugabe deemed it necessary for students to be exposed to other countries and universities, but said that such environments should be more carefully assessed as students abroad often come “home” with negative habits such as narcotics abuse.
On 10 February this year, Goronga stated in another blog post, “it seems only a corpse gets acknowledged”.
“Yet there are also deaths that occur inside.
“A sickness within that keeps killing but keeps you craving more,” he continued.
“It’s a death that occurs where you are both deceased and the mourner,” he wrote.
“It will hurt, but the true death is the only thing that is acknowledged.”
The Honeydew police are still investigating the death and warrant officer Karen Jacobs said, “we do not susepct foul play at this stage”.
