Sculptor and model maker Peter Davies has always had an interest in art since he was young. He took an interest in sculpting when he studied at Cramlington High School in England.

The Weltevreden Park resident said after he completed high school he got a bursary to study a course in ceramics and sculpting. “I took an interest in metal sculpting due to my interest in how statues are produced. I became a foundry pattern maker in 1975,” described Davies.

He has his own brand called Anarchcast, where the talented sculptor creates tableware, jewellery, ornaments, trophy works and home decor, to name a few of his creations. Davies describes the process to make these pieces as precise.

“When creating a piece, I first sketch a design or I add my input to a client’s design they have requested me to make. I then make a three-dimensional model out of clay. From there I use a silicone mould to create a prototype model. I came up with the actual technique myself, including the technology,” explained Davies.

The sculptor said that he makes each piece individually and may take up to 250 hours to complete. He described how he thinks of the most creative ways to use the pieces and has invented a unique way to expand or shrink pieces into different sizes. Davies said that he credits accuracy as one of the most important aspects of creating his pieces.

Administration and production manager Philip Davies who works with his father, said that he enjoys working with him and has learned everything he knows about the industry from him.

“We currently have different ranges such as the Asian Chi theme, expo Africa theme and expo ocean theme. I believe our different personalities help us work well together,” said Davies.

Brand ambassador Vee Hayes said Davies pieces will be distributed in upmarket jewellery stores globally. The recent stockist is Lynn Beaurin of Rosedales Gift and Decor in Ferndale.
