Update: Power (mostly) restored in Florida
Unfortunately, during the restoration process, one area's power issues were not restored.
Florida residents received some good news earlier this afternoon, 5 June, when the repairs were completed on the 33kV oil cables that were damaged by a Rand Water contractor.
Unfortunately, during the restoration process, one area’s power issues were not restored.
The councillor for Ward 70, Caleb Finn, posted an update on his Facebook page, saying, “City Power has confirmed that they have managed to restore all areas affected with the exception of a section of Lea Glen where a min sub has been vandalised and exploded when power was restored, causing the power to trip the first two times.
Thank you to everyone who assisted by reducing usage during restoration. Please try and maintain your usage to essentials for the coming couple of hours as fridges, geysers etc are all drawing a lot of power at present.”
He added that the risk of tripping was still high and urged residents to keep their usage down for a while longer. He concluded by saying, “Thank you again and thank you to the team of technicians who have worked on the matter since Wednesday, 3 June”.
