Cold and hunger concerns at children’s home

"Please support our Pyjama/ Slipper/ Gown drive. We have 120 kids, boys, and girls, from newborn to 18 years old, who need at least two sets of winter sleepwear."

Every day charitable organisation are inundated with requests for food. People are hungry.

The Covid-19 lockdown have led to massive food insecurity, and it escalates daily. There are wonderful food-security initiatives across the country and in one’s own town/ city, and everybody is encouraged to please support them.

One of the initiatives is that of The Bethany House Trust. Through its various programmes and projects, and with the community’s help, it has provided thousands of meals since the start of the lockdown.

“We will continue to do so until the tide turns. Please help us to help hungry families,” founder of the home, Gert Jonker, said.

They have four primary distribution points: Bethany House at 19 Potgieter Street, Monument; Ikusasa at 44 Von Brandis Street, Krugersdorp; Child and Family Welfare Muldersdrift, Drift Boulevard (at the For Goodness Sake Bistro); and the Child and Family Welfare Randfontein, 45 Buiten Street, Randgate.

If you drop off non-perishable food or food parcels at any of the four distribution points, their social-work professionals will distribute it to hungry families. Winter also exacerbates the problems of the poor.

“Please support our Pyjama/ Slipper/ Gown drive. We have 120 kids, boys, and girls, from newborn to 18 years old, who need at least two sets of winter sleepwear. Please drop off the donations at Bethany House, or contact us on 082 900 7832 to collect them.”
