Entertainers adapt creativity during lockdown
Entertainers bring unquantifiable joy to their audiences and the state-imposed lockdown has denied them from doing what they do best.
Faces are agitated with masks, hands are clammy with sanitizer and the lack of live artistic expression has left hearts empty.
Although many day to day activities have begun to resemble the pre-lockdown mood, there is still a growing void that is begging to be filled. Specialising in the art of upliftment, our creatives are hoping to do just that.
This community is brimming with entertainers of all varieties, with few as charismatic as actress and presenter Asanda Maku.
“It’s been interesting times. It’s just not as normal as we are used to but hopefully we will slowly get there,” she said about the film and television industry which is edging toward a sense of normality.
“On sets they are doing all the correct procedures with masks, santizers, social distancing and temperature readings,” explained Asanda.
Face to face contact is still limited, meaning she is confined to exhibiting her radiant charm through DIY video clips.
“We have to self-tape ourselves for a casting audition and send it via WhatsApp or WeTransfer,” she lamented.
Taking a more pragmatic and philosophical view since the beginning of lockdown is Ruimsig-based DJ and music producer, Elemental, whose real name is Roche Davies.
“Luckily we live in the age of technology which has swung open the doors for individuals to hone their craft from the comfort of their homes,” he said.
Elemental has been busy since day one of the lockdown sharpening his tools in preparation for the future.
“With the additional time, I have been able to work on projects with the help of online tutorials and master classes. The greatest source of learning is just a click away, and just a bit of guidance will unlock your creative juices,” claimed the multi-talented EDM wizard.
For those already masters of their trade, such as Andre The Hilarious Hypnotist, the lack of one on one interaction has been additionally disheartening.
“Unfortunately the damage the virus has done is going to have an effect on audience attendance way into next year. So sadly, it’s grim for my industry as we sit and wait,” said the continuously upbeat stage magician.
Entertainers bring unquantifiable joy to their audiences and the state-imposed lockdown has denied them from doing what they do best.
Nevertheless, their spirit remains and as Elemental advised, “Take something away from these times of uncertainty, however big or small. Allocate an hour or two each day to work on your skills and don’t feel any shame in sharing it to the online world.”
