Sanctuary for women in need
The message that Rae wishes to instil is that females need to be the commanders of their own destiny
Across the globe the coronavirus pandemic has exposed the deep faultlines of nations and societies.
While the carnage comes to us from across the world through our media devices, often the living rooms of our own street are scenes of intense emotional and physical conflict.
In a Florida North home, headed by a woman whose bright smile is only eclipsed by her colossal heart, a sanctuary exists for women looking for a helping hand to build a brighter future.
Lil’ Choices NPO offers support for women who are victims of abuse and domestic violence, specialising in alternatives for unwanted pregnancies. Matriarch Rae Bagus of Lil’ Choices is acutely attuned to the societal ills that plague the streets and homes of her community.
“I think that with lockdown, firstly domestic violence is definitely on the increase and my feeling is that if this lockdown continues, more young girls and even older woman will find themselves in a situation of abuse and unwanted pregnancy”.
Rae, assisted by her in-house psychologist, is preparing to double her counselling efforts and stresses that accountability is key, saying, “Education is needed for both men and women. Too few people understand or can face the consequences of their actions.”
The message that Rae wishes to instil is that females need to be the commanders of their own destiny.
“Woman need to start being proactive about their futures. Woman need to stop blaming others for where they find themselves.
“We just want girls and woman out there to know that should they find themselves in a situation they cannot handle alone, Lil’ Choices will definitely try to assist,” implored Rae. Lil’ Choices is a non-political, multi-ethnic, non-religious organisation catering for women of all ages, although parental permission is required should they be under 18.
