Witpoortjie resident shares his writing talent
Christo added that writing was more a question of escaping reality than anything else because he could design and create science fiction stories from his imagination
Christo van Niekerk, 30, has always loved to draw and write, and for the past 12 years he has been using these gifts to create an imaginary world where all your dreams can come true.
But, even though he has been doing this since he was 18 years old, he said that it took him a long time to get started on his books and finish them because he had to work as well.
“So I wrote and drew after hours and on weekends, and so far I have finished three books – Lily, Dijone and Olxsess. I am now also starting on my own comic books.”

Christo added that writing was more a question of escaping reality than anything else because he could design and create science fiction stories from his imagination.
“In my stories I can build anything, and can make anybody’s dreams come true. My dream is to create a Tale and Comic book line to show the whole world what I have on my mind and to inspire more people who love art and writing, to keep doing what they love,” he said.
Christo’s books are available on Amazon.com, and he said, “My book, Lily, love with a sickness is a science fiction story about two people falling in love for the first time in the after-life. Dijone the Creator, Giving her a life” was inspired by my seven-year-old daughter who came to live with me in 2019. She started drawing pictures of creatures from her imagination. So I took them all, redrew them and wrote a tale about them. The tale is about me finding her and giving her a life.
The third book, Olxsess, 60 insect guide book is what I like to call a discovery book, and describes the 60 insects on a planet called Hagel.”
He said that he draws inspiration from the world around him, because he has an eye for things others do not see and a mind for tales some have not heard of before. He believes this is his way of sharing it with the people around him in an attempt to take them with him on an imaginary journey filled with wonderful, exciting, and sometimes inexplicable things.
“When I write a story, I first imagine the character and then build the story around him/ her,” he said.
Christo’s favourite books are comic books, because there are many pictures and the stories are short, but he does not have one favourite author.
“I just love to read; if it is science fiction I will read it. I also love all the drawings and animations of superhero comics,” he said. For those who would like to read his stories, he not only has the three books on Amazon.com, but also have a Facebook page where he writes.
“The page is called The One Breed Tales. Every Wednesday I write the continuous tale of Stan and Dan, and every Friday there is a black and white comic called The WWW Wild World Worms. There are more books and comics on the way as well,” said Christo.
He concluded by saying, “I just want to say thanks to all my family and friends helping me and supporting me; without you I probably would not have started writing tales. And to everyone who has a dream, don’t throw it away and say there is no time.
If you really want it you can do it, with or without help; just believe in yourself, as you are the one who wants your dreams to come true.
If you believe it, you can go through a storm for it and you will look back one day and see it was not for nothing”.
