Florida Police Station closed for decontamination

This post was followed by another one yesterday, 23 June, informing community members that the station was still closed

The Florida Police Station is currently closed for decontamination after more members tested positive for Covid-19 on 22 and 23 June.

Initially, the Community Service Centre (CSC) was closed on Monday, 22 June for decontamination and was set to open today, 24 June. A post on the Florida CPF’s Facebook page advised community members that all CSC services would be conducted from the Detectives offices located at the back of the police station.

This post was followed by another one yesterday, 23 June, informing community members that the station was still closed, and that the CSC would be relocating to the Civic Centre, 100 Christiaan de Wet Road, Florida.

“All emergencies can still be logged by calling 10111, but community members should note that the landline numbers for the police station will not be answered. The Relief Commander can be contacted on 071 675 7145. A notice will be sent out today, 24 June, as to when the station will open again,” the notice read.

The councillor for ward 70, Caleb Finn also commented on the situation, saying, “Kindly note that the Roodepoort Theatre is located at the back of the Civic Centre, in order to access it you will enter where the normal Civic Centre parking is on Christiaan de Wet Road and drive to the back of the building where you will find the entrance to the theatre. There are also unconfirmed reports that 10111 is offline for decontamination as well, please keep the above cell number available in case you can?t reach 10111.”

He concluded by saying, “Overall, the Gauteng province has shown a large increase in Covid-19 cases, some of these are in our area. It is important that residents continue to wear a cloth mask while in public, to avoid physical contact with others, to wash your hands regularly with soap and water and to avoid going out unnecessarily.

In the coming weeks we will see even more positive Covid-19 cases in and around our communities, it is important that we remain calm, focused and thoughtful in our approach.

Practicing caution and taking action should you experience symptoms is all we can do.”
