Checkers Horizon View closed after staff member tests positive for Covid-19
A staff member at Checkers Horizon View tested positive for Covid-19, resulting in the store's closure on Monday, 29 June.
As the number of South Africa’s Covid-19 cases continue to rise, encountering the virus is becoming increasingly unavoidable.
Those at greatest risk are the ones in direct contact with the hundreds of customers who pass through supermarkets on a daily basis.

A staff member at Checkers Horizon View tested positive for Covid-19, resulting in the store’s closure on Monday, 29 June.
Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) received a complaint claiming that a staff member was still working at the store despite testing positive for the virus.
“JMPD discovered that the staff member in question was off sick since 17 June. She went for a Covid 19 test on 23 June and received her results on 27 June indicating that she was positive. She was only able to provide proof to management on 29 June,” confirmed JMPD spokesperson Wayne Minnaar.

JMPD arrived at the store shortly before 4pm and the store was shut by 4.15pm in order to address the situation.
“Arrangements will be made for the shop to be sanitized on 30 June, and a mobile clinic will be set up at the store to support staff, as well as screen and test staff where necessary,” elaborated Minnaar.
The staff member who tested positive will be in quarantine for the next 14 days and will undergo another test before returning to work. The acting JMPD Chief, Sipho Dlepu emphasised that the safety of staff and customers was important and proper procedures will have to be followed.
Store management was reluctant to comment on the situation, and Horizon View Shopping Centre management was yet to respond to a request for comment, but it will be shared when it is forthcoming.
