Community’s assistance needed for disabled boy
Someleze has a severe form of cerebral palsy and cannot walk, talk, feed himself, sit without support, chew or control his bodily functions, resulting in him having to wear nappies
It is never easy to lose both your parents at a young age, but it is even more traumatic to lose your primary caregivers if you are disabled and were dependent on their care.
This is what happened to 11-year-old Someleze Geza, who lost his mother, his sole caregiver, on 20 June.
Ayanda Cetywayo, a family friend said, “Someleze has a severe form of cerebral palsy and cannot walk, talk, feed himself, sit without support, chew or control his bodily functions, resulting in him having to wear nappies. He can see and hear. With his mother’s passing, there is nobody to care for him full time, as he needs special care. He has never been to a school.
“She added that he is in need of both a shelter and a school where he can live as well as learn. “We are trying to find a school for him, but we do not know where to start. We have heard about a school in Ruimsig that would be able to help, but it will cost about R20 000 per month, money we do not have.
“Besides the costs for the school, he is also in need of nappies, a wheelchair, food, speech and physical therapy. “Currently he lives with his father and four siblings, aged 18, 10, eight and three, in a room in someone’s back yard. “These living conditions are not suitable for him and his condition. Currently his grandmother, Agnes Cetywayo is caring for him, ensuring he is bathed, fed and that his nappies are changed,” Ayanda said.
She is appealing to the community to find it in their hearts to help them find a suitable place of care for Someleze, and said, “We would appreciate help in any form. Donations can be made on the BackaBuddy page, on https://www.backabuddy.co.za/someleze-geza.”
