Zandspruit DJ spins the decks throughout lockdown
The DJ has also travelled throughout the country to showcase his talents as a DJ
The nationwide lockdown during the Covid-19 pandemic has led to the loss of many things we have always taken for granted, including being able to listen to our favourite music artists.
One young artist, the 19-year old Sello Raphala, aka Xaviour SA decided that the lockdown will not get him down and he decided to start working on a new album, not allowing anything to stand in the way of reaching his goal. This self-taught disc jockey (DJ) started spinning the decks at 12 years old, and he said,
“The music genres that are close to my heart include Afro House and Afro Tech, and I play them from my heart. I love to entertain people and make them dance to the beat of the tracks.”

The youngster is no stranger in the entertainment business, and has shared the stage with a number of South Africa’s biggest DJs, including Glen Lewis, DJ Flirt, Rocco, LKG, Arch Jnr, Josi Chave and DJ Zinhle, to mention a few. He said,
“On the local front, I have spun the decks alongside the likes of Limpopo Rhythm, Headcrusher, DJ Chekaze, Fussion Deep, Da Calo, Heafty, Vida Soul and Bronx K among others.”
The DJ has also travelled throughout the country to showcase his talents as a DJ, and has played at Moon Beam Pub, SrjMatlalaFestival17, Tsi Cafe, Dukaduka Entertainment, GOG Lifestyle Park, Platinum Lounge, Tembisa Chess Session, Europa Groove Lounge, Amaros PTA, Louis Cafe, Club Ace and Diepsloot Momes.

He mentioned that he started production on his new EP in 2017, but has only been releasing single songs; however, because of the nationwide lockdown and the subsequent extension, he decided that it was now the right time to complete the EP, and said, “The name of this EP is EmazweniEP, and I am planning to release it on 7 August, which will also be my 20th birthday”.
Being a DJ has always been a big dream for Xaviour SA, and he said, “I really want to pursue this dream, because I understand music. Growing up, the music industry has taught me many things.”
He concluded with a message to other youngsters who would like to become a DJ, saying, “All young and upcoming DJs who would like to join the music industry should know that it requires passion, discipline and focus.
You need to leave behind negative friends, and realise that you are not playing to impress girls.
You are there to entertain the people who come to watch you play, as this is your job.”
