Operational challenges are providing officials with sleepless nights as they work tirelessly to keep the city’s essential infrastructure running.
Members of the public are equally frustrated as faults are going unattended, and the routine maintenance backlog increases. Operating capacity at Johannesburg Water has been severely effected as one of their key depots has been closed.
“I can confirm the closure of the Hamberg Depot due to a positive coronavirus case. The depot has been closed for contact tracing and deep-cleansing. The deep-cleansing has already started and direct contacts established. We anticipate that the depot should be ready to open by tomorrow, 2 July or Friday, 3 July,” stated Johannesburg Water External Communications Officer, Eleanor Mavimbela.
The public are urged to continue logging faults using the usual channels and they will be dealt with as soon as Johannesburg Water has the necessary capacity to do so. M
avimbela stressed that Johannesburg Water was doing all they could and pleaded for the public’s understanding, saying, “We urge all residents to be patient as we navigate the challenge posed by the virus together. Johannesburg Water remains committed to delivering services to the residents of the City of Johannesburg.”
