Trauma at Witpoortjie ATM

Ambulances and response vehicles were parked next to the Nedbank ATM outside of the old SPAR where an elderly woman had collapsed and sadly passed away.

At approximately 7am this morning, 2 July, APCAN, Emer-G-Med and the Roodepoort Police responded to a distress call at the premises of the former Witpoortjie SPAR on General Pienaar Avenue.

Ambulances and response vehicles were parked next to the Nedbank ATM outside of the old SPAR where an elderly woman had collapsed and sadly passed away. She was reportedly with her grandson and sister when the incident occurred. APCAN reaction officer, Ezekiel Monaanyane, was first on scene. He was sitting in his parked vehicle at the Del Forno restaurant directly across the street when a man who had witnessed the woman collapsing rushed to notify him. Ezekiel raced to the scene and immediately reported the situation to the APCAN office. Medics from the security group arrived shortly afterwards, joined by Emer-G-med paramedics and the Roodepoort Police.

Bronwyn Gopper, responding Emer-G-Med paramedic, put several theories of what happened to rest by confirming that the elderly woman passed away due to natural causes. Bronwyn further confirmed that the elderly woman was pronounced dead on arrival, having passed shortly after she collapsed. Roodepoort Police spokesperson, Captain Juanita Yorke, said that due to the woman passing away from natural causes, no inquests will be opened.

“We wish to offer our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased,” she said.

The Record will provide an update as soon as the family is ready to be interviewed about this sensitive subject.
