WATCH: Witpoortjie youngster’s drumming dream comes true
"I really wanted to help, because I felt that if playing the drums was his dream, and this set could take him places, warm his heart and help realise that dream, why not? So, last week Saturday, I delivered it to him"
When a good Samaritan donated a drum set to 10-year-old Raphael Motsisi, it did not only make the youngster’s day, but helped him to tick one item off his wish list.
The donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, explained, “My sister-in-law read the article about Raphael in last week’s Record and suggested I read it, which I did. I immediately felt I needed to do something to help.”He added that he had a drum set, which he got from his nephew, adding, “Because my wrists do not want to cooperate anymore, I was not using the set and it was only taking up space”.
He contacted Raphael’s father, and made arrangements for the set to be delivered. “I really wanted to help, because I felt that if playing the drums was his dream, and this set could take him places, warm his heart and help realise that dream, why not? So, last week Saturday, I delivered it to him,” he said.
Raphael’s father was filled with gratitude about the kind gesture, and when the set arrived he could not say thank you enough. “He kept on thanking me and telling me his prayers have been answered. He then called Raphael from his room, and when he came out and saw the set in my car, he was very excited. He could not tear his eyes away from the drums,” he said.He concluded by saying, “I did not do this because I wanted recognition. I saw an opportunity to make a difference and I could not let it pass me by.”
Raphael Senior said, “When I heard that someone wanted to help, I was elated and I experienced a sense of fulfilment. I was so happy to hear about the drum set, and when the good Samaritan promised to deliver it within just a few days, I was so excited. I was never sceptical and had no doubt in my mind that this will happen, because in my own little ways I give to the needy around me. Giving has been a part of my life; I have witnessed total strangers being sheltered and fed by my parents. As a believer in Christ, I fully understand the place of giving and receiving, so it came to me as God’s timely provision.”
He added that when Raphael Junior saw the drums, he beamed. “He leapt for joy and could not wait for them to be offloaded from the car, because he was itching to start playing!” Raphael Senior said with a big smile.

Since the drum set was set up, the youngster has been playing and practising for three to four hours a day. Raphael Senior concluded by saying, “I really do not want this story to end here, and want it to open doors to greater things in the life of Raphael Junior. Should anyone be willing to give him any necessary exposure to develop his drumming talent, such will be greatly appreciated. And should anyone also be able to help him to live out his soccer passion, I would be grateful.”For more information, contact Raphael Senior by sending an email to williamsraphael115@gmail.com
