As the six months of firearm amnesty finally came to an end, Honeydew Police spokesperson, Captain Balan Muthan said that members worked tirelessly to ensure that the residents were assisted according to their needs.
“Our members worked tremendously hard to make sure that the community of our policing area and beyond was helped during the amnesty,” he explained.
This amnesty period stretched from 1 August 2020 to 31 January 2021. The aim of this grace period was to hand in firearms either to be destroyed, or relicensed.
Although the amnesty is over, Muthan encouraged applicants for relicensing to do so within 14 days of handing in their firearm.
“The weekend before the closing date was extremely busy. We have to thank our Reservists and Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) members for volunteering their time and providing a gazebo for the members to work from during inclement weather,” said Muthan.
