Suspected courier vehicle robbers brought down in Strubens Valley

“It was a clean operation with no shots fired and no injuries reported,” Bartmann said.

For weeks on end, couriered goods hardly made it to their destinations due to the surge in robberies of these delivery vehicles in the area.

A crime intelligence-driven operation comprising the police Crime Intelligence Unit and Fidelity Specialised Services Unit (SIU) among other security companies successfully brought down a group of suspects in Strubens Valley on Tuesday, 23 February, who are believed to be involved in the robbery of courier vehicles.

According to Wahl Bartmann, the CEO of Fidelity ADT, Fidelity had been working closely with the police for several weeks to uncover and apprehend the perpetrators targeting courier vans.

He said the team had also been working on gathering information and tracking this group by successfully identifying the car they used to follow the courier vans. Keeping a close eye on them and monitoring their movements, Barmann added that a detailed operational plan was discussed with law-enforcement officials to intercept the vehicle, and resulted in four suspects being apprehended and handed over to the police.

“It was a clean operation with no shots fired and no injuries reported,” he reflected.

Honeydew Police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan, who confirmed the arrests, said that besides their Echo group and crime reaction units working tirelessly to bring these suspects to book, they had to seek help from other specialised crime units within the police to help in cracking down on these suspects in trio crimes.

Bartmann further explained that the matter is under investigation with cases being opened at the Randburg, Linden, Bramley and Alberton Police Stations. He also speculated that these suspects could possibly be linked to even more crimes.

“I want to commend our team on their outstanding work in tracking these criminals, as well as CAP Security and the law-enforcement officials involved in this successful operation,” he applauded.
